The Journalism Trust Initiative
The Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) by Reporters Without Borders is a transparency and accountability tool for journalism. It is built on a set of criteria for trustworthiness, that allow for media outlets of all sizes and stripes to self-evaluate their compliance and to get independently audited and certified if they choose to.

The jti:app is an online platform to provide these features in a collaborative and interoperable way. This means not only media outlets can register, but also other affiliated stakeholders, like press councils, regulators, trade groups and professional associations.
The Integrity Factor
E3J is using the JTI as an instrument to safeguard the integrity of all participants. By registering an account, not only the relevant Terms of Service and privacy policies are applied and mutually recognized, but also the distinct JTI Pledge. It establishes a common understanding of value-based journalism and binds all actors publicly.

This premise is grounded in the understanding that an ethical framework is essential for high-profile, investigative reporting across borders, which requires an extra amount of trust between partners who might not know each other personally.
The JTI Campus
In addition to the jti:app, the JTI Campus is in the making to provide support and capacity building, but also a collaborative space to share knowledge and exchange best practices around the topics of ethical, investigative journalism. Prospectively, also individual journalists will be able to register and make the JTI Pledge in order to access E3J offers.

The certification
To obtain the JTI certification on a voluntary basis, media outlets go through an independent audit based on their self-evaluation. A grant system is available to cover the costs of the independent audit boy. To apply for a grant, please fill in this application form.
